Im Brett.

I grew up in Southern California and started working in film in just about every way I could, eventually finding my way to cinematography. My early work was rooted in independent filmmaking, where small crews, limited resources, and natural light taught me to approach photography from the story outward.

My work has taken me from small independent films to television and large-scale studio filmmaking, but my approach has remained largely the same. I’m interested in finding a visual language that belongs specifically to the story rather than bringing a predetermined style to it. I love the technical side of cinematography—cameras, lenses, lighting and the constant evolution of the medium—but ultimately those choices only matter to me in how they support the characters, performances and world of the film.

Collaboration is a huge part of why I love what I do. The best ideas rarely belong to one person.
